The rumor is now almost close to reality. According to Mashable, Twitter is currently testing internally to implement two-way authentication.
Twitter has yet to officially reveal what authentication system they tested, but could in the future by logging into Twitter will be different to that of the current.
For example, Twitter will ask for authentication other than username and password. This authentication can later be sent via email, application, or maybe SMS.
