Sluggish sales of compact cameras Olympus stop making their cheap compact camera range. Is the V series which will be discontinued by the Japanese camera maker.

Olympus suffered a loss in the fiscal year that ended in March due to the sluggishness. Low end compact camera class should 'yield' on a smartphone, especially in terms of online photo sharing as well as a wealth of editing applications.

As reported in the Wall Street Journal, Olympus said that they would concentrate on high-end models with the ability of the lens can be exchanged (interchangeable lens).

Olympus digital cameras lowered its sales target in the fiscal year from the original 5.1 million units in the previous year, to 2.7 million units.

As for the high-end segment, they will focus on mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.

Not only Olympus, which felt similar condition is Samsung. A few days ago they also said it would focus on mirrorless system camera in this year.

"Samsung's focus on mirrorless camera in 2013 and aims to be number one," said Hadi Surya as the Samsung AT Product Specialist Samsung Electronics Indonesia.
